Local brigades at Ritchies

Brigades such as Yarra Glen brigade will be out in force this weekend supporting Ritchies by running a BBQ outside the Yarra Glen Ritchies store.

Since the Community Benefit Card Program began in the area, the brigade has received more than $100,000 from Ritchies.

Community Safety Coordinator Louise Higgins said Yarra Glen brigade purchased a 2.4c tanker (known as Tanker 2) in October 2009 to complement its fleet.

“This would not have been possible without the support and generosity of the local community, businesses, and our local Ritchies,” Louise said.

“When the store opened in 2009, the new Ritchies became a place of shelter for many residents and their pets during the fires providing food, drinks and support for those attending the fires in the local and neighbouring areas. The launch of the Ritchies Community Benefit Card and the events of that day and the following weeks culminated in the community wanting to support the local fire brigade. Through the Community Benefit Card a significant amount was donated towards the truck."

“Yarra Glen brigade is thankful for the support that Yarra Glen Ritchies Store Manager Mark and his team provide – whether that be assisting us with the distribution of calendars, hosting us for our annual Father’s Day raffle, or assisting us with the supply of sausages if we are holding a BBQ in the community.”

Sarsfield, Bright, Beechworth, Carrum Downs, Narre Warren, Paynesville, Skye, Bayswater and Wonthaggi brigades will also be at their local stores this week, starting with the Sarsfield brigade attending the Bairnsdale Ritchies store this Thursday 19 November.
