Man rescued from burning home

A Traralgon man is lucky to be alive after firefighters carried him from his burning home overnight.

CFA was called to the unit in Gwalia Street at 4.21am when neighbours raised the alarm.

Traralgon Senior Station Officer Gavin Parker said the man was trapped in his bathroom when they arrived on scene.

“The man suffered some burns and smoke inhalation but was fortunate to escape further injuries,” he said.

“Sadly there was also a dog in the house which we weren’t able to save.”

The fire caused extensive damage to the unit.

Mr Parker said CFA members, police and paramedics worked really well together.

“It was a real team effort and we did a great job saving the man’s life and preventing further spread of the fire,” he said.

“This fire highlights the importance of having working smoke alarms and having a fire escape plan.”

Police and firefighters are investigating the cause which is being treated as suspicious.

Six CFA crews from Traralgon and Morwell attended the scene.
