Mansfield Volunteer - Australia Day Honours

Story by David Mims (Mansfield).

Long serving Mansfield Fire Brigade volunteer Neville Mathieson was honoured this Australia Day in Mansfield, being awarded the Mansfield Shire Council’s Australia Day Senior Citizen of the Year.

His nomination and subsequent award was in recognition of more than 40 years service to organizations in Mansfield, including the CFA, The Rotary Club of Mansfield, and St Johns Anglican Church.

Neville’s CFA service began before coming to Mansfield, having been involved with Euroa brigade, and his service with Mansfield included brigade captain from July 1987 to April 1996, and is still active today, being the current Communications Officer, and assisting with community education.

He was presented his award at the annual Australia Day ceremony in the High St median strip, in front of a large crowd, thanking his many colleagues across the various organizations he works with, but reserving a special thank you for his wife June and his family for enabling him to pursue his interests over so many years.

Well done Neville, from your friends and colleagues at Mansfield Fire Brigade for a well deserved award.
