Firefighters were called to a home on Quail Crescent, Melton at about 10.20am on Friday, arriving to find the house well alight.
Two people - an adult and child - were home at the time. One person was transported to hospital suffering from burns.
The fire was brought under control at about 11.05am. The house was totally destroyed.
Six trucks from Melton, Sunbury, Bacchus Marsh and Ballarat City and a Pentland Group Car attended the fire.
