Message from Executive Director Janelle Leonard

Today is R U OK? Day, a reminder to all of us to take the time to check in with the people around us.

Message

2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected.

If you feel like something’s not quite the same with someone you know or you notice a change in what they’re saying or doing, trust your gut instinct and take the time to ask them ‘Are you OK?’.

This year focuses on what to say after ‘R U OK?’. There are four simple steps to have a conversation that could change a life:

  • Ask R U OK?
  • Listen
  • Encourage action
  • Check in

One of our wellbeing goals is to encourage positive, proactive discussion around mental health. The more each of us does this, the more it will become commonplace so that we feel just as comfortable talking about mental health as we do about our broken leg.

The wellbeing team has developed some more tips on having a conversation, which you can access on the CFA Intranet.

Today CFA will be hosting a mindfulness during uncertainty workshop from 1pm to 2pm.

The event is open to all CFA people but has a capacity for 1,000, so first in best dressed. The session will be recorded and placed onto the CFA intranet for all those who missed out.

You can join the Zoom session at 1pm today by clicking here

I encourage you all to take the time to attend the session or view the video online.

Your say CFA

As our people continue to adapt their lives due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, we’re encouraging you to share the innovative ways you have managed your health and wellbeing as well as working remotely during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the Your Say CFA platform

You can also connect with others who are having the same experiences.

Mental Health First Aid

We are pleased to be able to offer a new Blended Online Mental Health First Aid course, developed in response to the COVID-19 environment.

In this course you will learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adults and how to provide initial help, you can find out more here.

CFA Wellbeing Support Line

The wellbeing of our people is of upmost priority and CFA's Wellbeing Support Line is available 24 hours, seven days a week for members and their families. Through this you can access Psychologists and Counsellors through the Member Assistance Program as usual.

It’s important that we talk and then keep talking about mental health, not just on RU OK? Day but every day.
