Murchison house fire

CFA crews have worked in severe weather conditions to battle a house fire in Murchison this afternoon.

The residential house on Impey Street was well alight when crews arrived around 4.20pm.

CFA Duty Officer Peter Dedman said there were initial concerns that the fire might spread.

“Firefighters successfully turned their focus to protecting a medical centre adjacent to the house,” he said.

“Unfortunately due to the heat of the day, two of our firefighters were overcome by heat exhaustion.

“One person was treated by paramedics on scene. Later another was checked over by a doctor from the neighbouring medical centre.”

Temperatures in the area reached the high 30s this afternoon.

An Advice message was issued to nearby residents due to the amount of smoke in the area.

A fire investigator will attend later today.

Nine crews attended from Shepparton, Murchison, Nagambie, Bailieston, Rushworth, Arcadia, Moorlim and Wahring.
