NAIDOC Week a time to celebrate Indigenous history, achievements and culture

This week marks national NAIDOC week – an annual event celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

This year’s theme is ‘We all Stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate’, and highlights Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ strong spiritual and cultural connection to land and sea.

NAIDOC is celebrated by Australians from all walks of life, and is a wonderful opportunity for us to acknowledge the contribution from our Indigenous members and our ongoing commitment to deliver CFA’s Koori Inclusion Action Plan (KIAP).

I want to personally thank all of our Indigenous members and highlight the work under way to deliver the key actions under the CFA KIAP as we move towards becoming an even more welcoming, accepting and inclusive organisation.

NAIDOC Week is on from 5-12 July. Look here for more information about NAIDOC week’s history and events being held across the state.
