New Beaconsfield Fire Station officially opens

The new Beaconsfield Fire Station was officially opened on 30 April 2017 by Daniel Mulino MLC Member for Eastern Victoria and CFA board member Dr Gillian Sparkes.

New

The original Beaconsfield Fire Station was constructed in 1944 and extended in 1970. Due to population growth in the area, the station became inadequate to meet the brigades needs including no parking on site and insufficent space for vehicles and members turnout gear.

Construction of a new station was announced in April 2015 by former Minister Jane Garrett and Daniel Mulino MLC, and construction of the new station was completed in November 2016.

The new station comprises 3 engine bays, an FCV shed, on site parking and facilities to meet the needs of the brigade into the future.

The opening was conducted by Beaconsfield Captain Marc Graham and was attended by:

  • Daniel Mulino MLC Member for Eastern Victoria and local member Brad Battin MP Member for Gembrook.
  • CFA board member Dr Gillian Sparkes, Assistant Chief Officer Trevor Owen and Operations Officer Jim Dore.
  • Cardinia Shire Mayor Brett Owen and City of Casey Mayor Sam Aziz.
  • Members and staff of neighbouring brigades.
  • Existing and former brigade members and thier families, including life members and former captains.
  • Representatives of the local community including groups which have been major supporters of the brigade.

A smoking ceremony and welcome to country was conducted by representatives of the Bunurong Aboriginal community.

A feature of the opening was the relocation of the original fire bell from the old station to the new station. After being rung at the old station seven times for each decade of operation, it was carried to the new station by brigade members representing life members, current brigade leaders, and younger members where it was rung once to mark the opening of the new station.
