Four new members have joined CFA’s Inclusion and Fairness Council - Nicky Haslinghouse (District 2), Kai-Li Tan (District 14), Troy Jennings (District 27) and Ben Miqueu (District 2).
A firefighter in the Riddells Creek township, new member Ben (pictured) is a business strategy adviser that helps social enterprises scale in Australia and internationally. He has worked in and traveled to over 70 countries for the Australian Government, United Nations, NGOs and the private sector.
“The Diversity and Inclusion Council is an incredibly important initiative of CFA,” Ben said.
“Increasingly we recognise that CFA is more than a firefighting force. We are a community organisation that happens to be brilliant at fighting fires
“Therefore, we need to ensure our organisation completely reflects the community it represents.
“One of the major reasons I joined was for my daughter Amelie. I would hope that she grows up knowing that possibilities are endless for women and she can chose whatever path she desires.
“This should be the same for all people, especially those who have been excluded from the opportunities many of us take for granted.
“I am looking extremely forward to adding value to the Council where I can.”
At its recent meeting, the Council agreed to seek further new Council members to broaden representation and involvement. In pursuit of developing a more inclusive and fair CFA, expressions of interest are sought from the West Region and youth profile.
Expressions of interest should be forwarded to inclusionandfairness@cfa.vic.gov.au briefly outlining your background and motivation. Contact Terri Johnson on 0429 030 472 or email t.johnson@cfa.vic.gov.au if you would like to discuss the role further.
As well at the meeting the Council voted unanimously to accept the proposed Inclusion & Fairness Business Rule. The Business Rule will now progress through the next developmental stages.
The Council continued its review of the Inclusion and Fairness Strategic Roadmap, discussing the major roadblocks and gateways to achieving sustainable culture change. This planning session looked to develop both short and long-term projects.
