Metcalfe Group of brigades recently held a CFA Recruit Course (Bushfire Firefighter) at Castlemaine Fire Station. Local volunteer instructors Darryn Cutlack and Ron Gartside from Castlemaine Fire Brigade took the 19 new members through two days of theory and one day of practical assessment.
The new brigade members had been working hard at their brigades learning new skills before being put through their paces by Darryn and Ron.
The members who completed the course were from Castlemaine, Harcourt, Elphinstone, Taradale, Metcalfe, Sutton Grange and Myrtle Creek and Langley-Barfold brigades. This now gives brigades more members to help with what could be a busy upcoming fire season.
Another course is scheduled for late November.
