New review into member health and safety

The health and safety of our members is our number one priority.

As part of this commitment, the Executive Leadership Team has launched a program to review Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) issues within CFA. It will focus on the physical health and mental wellbeing of our members, their safety and the environment in which they work.

Our members work in tough and dangerous conditions, from driving in high risk situations, to the long summer campaigns that can cause fatigue.

It’s the management and mitigation of these risks, and many more that will be addressed as part of the program.

One of the reasons we began this program was in response to a recently commissioned report by risk management consultancy Greencap.  While it identified numerous strengths in the way we manage HSE, it also highlighted a number of areas where we can do better. One of the suggestions made was to increase our focus on safety.

The HSE Program highlights the importance CFA places on the “Safety First” message. It will increase the focus on our members’ welfare from the top down and better integrate health, safety and environmental practices into our everyday work.

In other words more emphasis will be placed on managing HSE issues, improving our safety culture and planning for the challenges that lie ahead.

One action we have already taken is to create a Risk Register to help us focus on the most prevalent dangers facing our members: driving, health and fatigue.

We’ll provide further updates as the Program continues.
