New volunteers love life at Lindenow

Two recent recruits both joined Lindenow Fire Brigade in the last year and have loved the opportunity CFA has provided them to give back to their communities.

Jemma Blandford is a mum, a pastry chef and now a volunteer firey. She said the brigade is supportive and flexible, even throughout her training.

“The brigade made sure there were training sessions that fit in with my life when I was going through General Firefighter,” she said.

Jemma is a third generation CFA firefighter, her twin sister a volunteer with neighbouring brigade Meerlieu.

“I thought to myself, we’re basically the same person so why couldn’t I do it.”

“I have since been to my first call out and felt so supported by the more experienced members at our brigade.”

Robert Baxter joined Lindenow last year, signing up after taking his kids to an Open Day at the brigade.

“It was eye opening for me to see what happens at a CFA brigade,” said Robert.

“As a father, a community member and an Aboriginal man, I want to set an example to those around me.”

“It’s never too late to give back and lead by example.”

There’s a role for everyone at CFA – so ‘Give Us a Hand’ and express your interest at www.cfa.vic.gov.au/volunteer.
