Newham Fire Brigade members have brought some Christmas sparkle to their home village by using clever recycling.
At night hundreds of solar-powered lights give a festive glow to the intersection where the fire station stands, but during the day recycled decorations adorn the station.
Brigade members made magnificent Christmas trees by sawing up wooden pallets, adding some paint and circles of bright colour to imitate decorations. They also made two stout snowpals from old tyres complete with traditional twig arms and untraditional old fire protection goggles.
"Each year when we decorate the station we get a lot of positive comments from the community," Newham Fire Brigade Captain Bryan Hornbuckle said. "So now in the lead up to Christmas we try to do something a little different to before so people walking their dogs or driving their cars past us have something new and rather fun to look at."
Last year a Christmas tree made from painted tyres received a lot of compliments.
"Tyres are really easy to work with and readily available," Bryan said.
"Bridgestone in Kyneton help us source what we needed. And now the tyre tree has been passed onto Newham Primary School to be reused this Christmas, it has taken recycling that extra step."
And, of course, the good thing about creating decorations out of recycled materials is that they are inexpensive as well as eye catching.
Look out for Newham Fire Station's decorations this Christmas if you are in the area.
