Sunday 26 April saw a large gathering at the Newstead Fire Station for its brigade awards ceremony. ACO Mike Wassing presented long service awards, National Medals and National Emergency Medals.
Mike Wassing reflected on the brigade’s longevity, with more than 900 service years being presented. The Ladies Auxiliary created a lovely lunch enjoyed by all and then took their rightful spot on the podium to receive their long-service awards.
National Emergency Medals were presented to Tim Carlin, John Bell and John Alexander for their efforts during the 2009 bushfires, as well as four National Medals being presented for diligent service by members of the brigade.
One brigade member commented, “we don’t belong to the brigade to receive medals, but having the ACO say a public thank you is very nice”.
