CFA values and honours exceptional contributions to protecting lives and property. You now have the opportunity to nominate members for recognition of the prestigious Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM).

CFA is in the process of consolidating AFSM nominations for the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2022.

Introduced in 1988, the medal is awarded biannually in the Australia Day and the Queen's Birthday Honours Lists in recognition of distinguished service by members of fire service agencies across Australia. Only one award is presented to an individual, and recipients are entitled to use the post-nominal letters ‘AFSM’.

The AFSM is awarded by the Governor-General on the recommendation of the responsible Commonwealth, state and territory ministers. In Victoria, this is the Minister for Emergency Services, acting on behalf of the Premier of Victoria.

This year’s CFA Queen’s Birthday Honours List included Peter Baker, Garry Cook, Brian Petrie, Lesley Read, Alen Slijepcevic, Peter Solly, and Stephen Walls,
