North West Region commits to violence prevention

Today was a seminal day for women and men in North West Region for two reasons.

Firstly, our members took a stand at the Bendigo White Ribbon Day Walk, and secondly, today marked the formation of the North West Region Violence Prevention Advisory Group.

‘We’ve taken the White Ribbon Oath and recognised the importance of men taking the lead on violence prevention through our participation in the walk today’, said Assistant Chief Officer, North West Region, Mike Wassing.

‘We’ve also made a long-term commitment to ending violence against women through the establishment of the NWR Violence Prevention Advisory Group, which aims to build cultures of non-violence within the region’, he said.

White Ribbon Day is a national, male-led campaign giving men an opportunity to stand-up against violence. While observing the International Day of the Elimination of Violence against Women, White Ribbon Day also signals the start of the 16 days of action, which ends on Human Rights Day on December 10.

‘North West Region will continue to build on the commitment we made today and we encourage all our members to take a stand against violence’, said Mike.
