Pakenham man receives burns while cooking

CFA is warning people about the dangers of using accelerants after a man was injured while cooking his dinner at home in Pakenham this afternoon.

CFA was called to the incident at 4.30pm at a retirement village in Racecourse Road.

CFA District 8 Operations Officer David Ellams said the 76 year-old man was cooking his dinner using a Webber barbeque when the incident occurred.

“It appears the man has used an accelerant on the barbeque which has caused a small explosion and unfortunately the man has received burns to his upper chest, face and neck,” he said.

“Fortunately the man is ok and is now in the hands of paramedics where he will be transported to hospital.”

Two CFA trucks from Pakenham attended the incident.
