Pine plantation fire

Over 120 CFA members tackled a grass and scrub fire at a Munro Pine Plantation on Sunday, 3 September.

Crews were called to the Munro Road property just after 11.30am to extinguish the fire that was approximately 8 hectares in size.

Operations Officer Dave Ellams said “On arrival crews were confronted with a private burn off that had spread across an old logged pine plantation, crossed several roads and was now running rapidly with the strong winds behind it into HVP’s new Pine Plantation.”

“CFA crews worked hard to suppress the fire edge but found it difficult due to the very difficult terrain inside the pine plantation.

“All crews worked well in warm and windy conditions in what is shaping up as quite a busy season.

“CFA and HVP worked well together to get the fire under control.”

Avon Group Officer Richard Mawson said “It was a good chance to do some mentoring and get our command systems in place early.”

Twelve CFA trucks from Glenaladale, Briagolong, Stratford, Fernbank, Perry Bridge, Munro, Lindenow South, Avon and Sale were in attendance.
