Pledge count surges

The overall pledge count has surged past 8,000 in CFA’s Fire Safety Pledge competition with Point Cook Fire Brigade taking a commanding early lead in the overall brigade category.

Tallarook Fire Brigade hold a narrow lead over Parwan and Eynesbury in the ‘per-capita’ category, whilst Dartmouth are holding out Nariel Valley and Stoneleigh in the ‘Pop<100’ category which is specifically for the CFA brigades that serve a population of less than 100 people. You can check the live Brigade Leader Boards here.

3 x $1,000 cash prizes are on offer for brigades in the competition which targets the public to take action to be better prepared for the threat of fire.

CFA members are encouraged to take the pledge themselves and then share it with their family, friends and community. The important pledge allows users to choose the fire safe actions they are prepared to commit to through a quick online link. The competition will run until Thursday 3 December at http://www.thefiresafetypledge.com.au/ so it’s not too late to share it online and get your brigade climbing the Leader Boards.  .

A minor prize will be awarded to the per-capita brigade winner in each CFA district in addition to the major $1,000 cash prizes across three brigade competition categories.

Being an online competition, the brigades with an existing online presence seem to have started strongly and are making good connections when their community is already online. Some ideas to increase the number of pledges assigned to your brigade are:

  •          Have each brigade member share the competition link on Facebook or e-mail it to their family, friends and contacts.
  •          Borrow an iPad or tablet and roam the crowd at your brigade open day or community event.
  •          Share as an image on your brigade social media pages. Tag in other pages or groups that may be in your community and ask them to share it with their members i.e. a township or community Facebook page, the local Football Club, Rotary Club, local festival or event page.

Five lucky people who take the pledge during the competition period will take home a $200 Bunnings voucher as an incentive to take the pledge.
