Presentations to BAELOs on fire investigation

The theme of this year’s annual Victoria Police Bushfire, Arson and Explosives Liaison Officers (BAELOs) training session was “Why do we tolerate dangerous behaviour?”

To further enhance the existing partnerships between CFA and Victoria Police from a fire investigation perspective at state, regional, district and local levels, all district fire investigation coordinators, fire investigation team leaders and fire investigators were invited to attend the session scheduled in their region/district.

The training sessions started on Monday 4 December and finished on Friday 15 December 2017.  

Training sessions were held at the following regional locations, which were well attended by members of Victoria Police and CFA:

  • Warrnambool
  • Horsham
  • Mildura
  • Wangaratta
  • Morwell
  • Castlemaine
  • Geelong
  • Glen Waverley (Police Academy)

Presentations were delivered by detectives from the Victoria Police Arson and Explosives Squad and the CFA Fire Investigation Section on topics relating to roles and responsibilities,  Operation Fire Setter, fire investigation principles, vegetation fire causation, plus a number of relevant case studies.
