Preservation of fire investigation scenes

The CFA Fire Investigation section has developed the Fire Scene Preservation poster to raise the awareness of the importance of fire scene preservation and the process of requesting fire investigation assistance at fire scenes.

The actions and observations of the incident controller and the initial responding firefighters are critical to the success of the subsequent fire investigation into the origin and cause of grass, vegetation and bushfires that CFA brigades attend during the Fire Danger Period.

To assist with the fire investigations into the origin and cause of grass, vegetation and bushfires, the Fire Scene Preservation poster will help incident controllers and initial responding firefighters to undertake the correct observations and actions in protecting, preserving and recording the fire scene for any future fire investigations.

A copy of the poster is on CFA Online/Brigades Online at:

Fire & Emergencies > Fire Investigation > Report Arson

Further information relating to fire scene preservation can be located within the Fire and Emergency Management Pocket Checklists under Fire Investigation and via CFA Online/Brigades Online at:
