Residents in the area of Cape Clear and Teesdale in the Golden Plains Shire may see smoke in the air on Sunday, 6 December, as CFA firefighters carry out multiple fire prevention works on roadsides.
Roadside burns will be conducted between 10.30am and 2.30pm around the Rokewood Shelford Area.
Vegetation Management Officer Tony Brady said roadside burning was an effective method to lessen the bushfire risk.
“As a result of the work we will be doing on Sunday, any fire that goes through the area in the future will burn with far less speed and intensity – making it more manageable for firefighters and less likely to impact life and property,” he said.
“Planned burning also helps the environment, and many species of plants and animals have come to depend on fire to survive.”
The works will be conducted by 40 CFA tankers with support from Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and HVP.
Mr Brady said residents could also expect travel delays of up to 15 minutes along the Bannockburn-Skipton Road.
“Firefighters and trucks will be moving around these areas, so we’re asking motorists to please take care on roads and obey traffic controllers.”
People with asthma or other heart or lung conditions that make them susceptible to the effects of smoke are advised to consider staying indoors, reduce their exercise, take their medications and follow their asthma plan.
