Rockbank Fire Brigade seeking volunteers now

On Sunday 25 October, Rockbank Fire Brigade with the support of Caroline Springs, Truganina and Metropolitan Fire Brigade attended the Sri Durga Festival to promote the brigade within the growing community.

The event was held at the new temple, which is due to be open at the end of the month and saw thousands of people from diverse cultures attend.

The brigade supported the event managers with a number of emergency management tasks. They were able to promote the brigade’s identity into a community which will see significant growth in the coming years.

New estates such as Woodlea has already commenced construction of road networks for new homes & the display village. The first lot of residents are expected to move in mid-2016. The Mt Atkinson estate is also being planned for on the west-bound side of the Western Highway with Woodlea on the east-bound side.

The brigade will have an increase in incidents throughout the coming years. There is also an urgent need for people to join the brigade and maintain it's ability to respond to emergencies.

Although the main presence of the brigade at the festival was for emergency management and recruitment purposes, significant community engagement occurred. The members of Truganina and Caroline Springs Fire Brigade were very engaging and connected well with the festival’s diverse communities.

Metropolitan Fire Brigade had a team of people who provided a co-badged CFA & MFB marquee. They had a great initiative with wooden spoons used to educate people about the dangers of house fires, with a significant number of them beginning in the kitchen.

Rockbank Fire Brigade is actively recruiting new members to join the brigade in a variety of operational and supporting roles. The brigade are attending a number of events around the community in the upcoming months promoting recruitment
