Rope rescue after Kalorama crash

CFA firefighters are using rescue equipment to help two people from their car located 10m down an embankment on the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road at Kalorama.

District 13 Operations Officer Greg Christison said two cars collided on the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road and one vehicle went down the embankment.

He said two elderly car occupants were not seriously injured but a delicate rescue was underway.

“Firefighters have already extricated one person from the car down the embankment and we will complete the other rescue in the next 10 minutes,” he said.

“The other car was still on the road and the driver was uninjured.”

The Mount Dandenong Tourist Road at Inverness Road is closed towards Montrose. CFA crews will work to clear the road and expect to have it reopen in an hour.

Around 30 firefighters from Monbulk, Wandin, Montrose, Dandenong and Kalorama attended.
