Students of Phoenix P-12 Community College students in Sebastopol now know what it’s like to be a fire fighter.
The VCAL students have just completed a six week CFA course as part of their rural studies supported by the Sebastopol Fire Brigade.
VCAL teacher Faye Kricak said the nationally accredited course had given students the opportunity to join a fire brigade and could help the CFA recruit members.
“It’s not just about fighting fires. They have built connections with the community and they value that now,” Mrs Kricak said.
Sebastopol Fire Brigade fire fighter Tony Brady said “it was very rewarding for the Brigade to be involved in the VCAL program in partnership with Phoenix P-12 and we know that the skills that the students have learnt will be valuable for them now and for the future.”
Year 11 student Sarah Jensen said she hoped to become a fire fighter one day.
“This course has had a great impact on my life. It has definitely benefited me. It has got me one step closer to becoming a fire fighter. It’s a fantastic feeling.” Sarah said.
