Shed fire interrupts live broadcast

Firefighters involved in a live broadcast had to quickly drop their microphones and jump onto their trucks after a fire broke out in a nearby shed.

The 'change to scheduled programming' happened during CFA's latest Volunteer Forum, broadcast live each month on YouTube.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan, who was hosting the live broadcast, said the emergency highlighted the professionalism and adaptability of CFA volunteers.

"No matter what is happening, our volunteers are always prepared and ready to respond to emergencies and protect lives and property," he said.

"Even though we were in the middle of a live broadcast, crews quickly got their gear on and the trucks out. And, of course, the show must go on, so we continued broadcasting despite all the activity going on around us."

Last night's forum focused on young CFA members and included a hose bowling competition with Junior and Cadet CFA members taking on the Chief Officer.

The emergency call was received just after 7pm for a shed fire on the Princes Freeway in Tynong North.

The live broadcast was happening in nearby Beaconsfield Fire Station, which was one of several brigades that responded to the incident.

Eight CFA vehicles attended the scene and managed to quickly get the fire under control. The incident was deemed safe at 8.43pm.

Due to windy conditions crews implemented a plan to monitor the fire overnight.
