Smoke alarm saves Eaglehawk couple

A working smoke alarm has saved the lives of an Eaglehawk couple this morning.

Eaglehawk Fire Brigade Captain Hayden Allen said the residents made a safe escape from their burning Red Hill Court unit.

“When crews arrived just before 6am the fire was quite intense, so it was a relief to see the two occupants were outside safe and well,” he said.

“The fire appears to have begun in the main bedroom.

“Much of the unit has been extensively damaged, while a neighbouring property also received some damage from exposure.”

Firefighters brought the blaze under control within 25 minutes.

Five trucks attended from Eaglehawk, Bendigo and Golden Square.

The cause of the fire will be investigated.
