Somerville was at a standstill on Saturday 9 May to honour Somerville Fire Brigade's most senior firefighter, who passed away on 4 May.
Ex-captain Rodney Armstrong, 72, was a life-long resident of Somerville and had served in many management positions of Somerville Brigade since he became a member in 1960. he also served as Deputy Group Officer for the Western Port Group.
Throughout his CFA career, Rod received great support from his wife Bev, also a long-standing brigade member.
in his euology, Somerville brigade Captain Allan Monti outlined Rod's outstanding service, the many roles he had played, and the recognitionhe had received in the form of medals and service awards.
Despite suffering from ill health in recent years, Rod was still a regular at the fire station up to the time of his passing, assisting the brigade with administrative tasks.
Condolences have been received from district brigades, CFA management and members of the public in recognition of Rod's long career and contribution to the Somerville community.
