Brigades in Casey and Cardinia have been taking advantage of ideal spring weather patterns to conduct planned burning throughout the group.
The current weather patterns, which have seen rain events followed by a good drying cycle then more rain, have allowed for burns to successfully go ahead in Gembrook, Upper Beaconsfield and Narre Warren North. A number of scout parks have been targeted for planned burning works that are considered a high risk from bushfire or contribute to the hazard which has the potential to impact on high-risk assets identified within the Victorian Fire Risk Register.
These parks include Gilwell, Dallas Brooks and Harkaway Scout Parks and the works contribute to overall mosaic burning strategies planned for all of these parks.
Substantial positive feedback has been received identifying the professional and skilful works being undertaking by the burn controllers and all supporting brigades. The participating brigades have all remarked on the benefits in relation to undertaking these sorts of activities.
Manager Community Safety for SMR, Jude Kennedy, was full of praise for the brigades participating in the spring burning commenting, “It’s a credit to all that have been involved in the planning and execution of the burns. Well done”.
