Suspicious fire at Wonthaggi

CFA and police will investigate the cause of a fire in Wonthaggi this morning after fire destroyed a house overnight.

Incident Controller Jamie Moresco said crews were called to attend a house fire in Stewart Street just after midnight.

“When crews arrived they found the house to be around 70 per cent alight,” he said.

“The house has been completely destroyed. It’s lucky no one was home at the time.”

It took crews around 45 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The fire is being treated as suspicious and follows a number of other suspicious fires in the area in recent weeks.

“We’re asking people to remain vigilant and notify police if they see any suspicious activity,” Jamie said.

Six CFA crews from Wonthaggi and Inverloch attended.
