Tecoma massage business damaged by fire

Firefighters have been praised for stopping the spread of a shop fire at Tecoma, around lunchtime Friday, 13 May.

Crews from Upwey, Belgrave and Sassafras were quickly at the scene of the fire in massage therapy business on the Burwood Highway.

CFA District 13 Operations Manager Dave Renkin praised crews for the quick response.

“The business is part of a strip of shops in the main road. The firefighters did a really amazing job of confining it to the single property. It certainly had significant potential to spread to neighbouring businesses,” Mr Renkin said.

One person at the business was transported to hospital by Ambulance Victoria with burns.

The property was extensively damaged and would require crews to remain on scene for some time.

A fire investigator had begun examining the scene.

Bayswater Breathing Apparatus crew and the Yellingbo Rehabilitation unit also attended.
