Thanks ladies!

Surf Coast Shire acknowledges firefighters with an International Women's Day award.

It was a perfect, early autumn evening, 8 March, when Surf Coast Shire Mayor Rose Hodge hosted a special evening at the beautiful outdoor amphitheatre at Eumeralla Scout Camp, Anglesea, to recognise the achievements of a number of local women for International Women's Day 2016.

In front of a packed crowd, Councillor Margot Smith presented certificates of appreciation to Torquay 2nd Lieutenant and Training Coordinator Louise Turner and Connewarre 3rd Lieutenant and Community Safety Coordinator Nadine Blyth. Louise and Nadine have each contributed as firefighters and leaders in their local brigades for more than 20 years.

It was a wonderful opportunity to thank these two talented women for their work in our brigades and communities.

Many of the award recipients acknowledged the wonderful people in their organisations and lives, both men and women, who are supportive and encouraging. It would seem, gender aside, when we strive to support and encourage each other as individuals, great things can be achieved.

Thank you Louise and Nadine.
