CFA crews have responded to three house fires in the last 24 hours across the state – in a timely reminder to all Victorians about the importance of home fire safety.
CFA crews from District 22 received and early wake-up call this morning responding to a house fire in Cobram East just after 6am.
CFA Rostered Duty Officer Shane Sutton said the double-storey home was well alight when crews arrived.
“There were sparks coming through the ceiling, and the fire was spreading quickly.
“The owner of the home, a woman, managed to raise the alarm before getting out safely without sustaining any injuries.
“We had eight tankers on scene including an aerial pumper from Shepparton, which was used to take aerial photos of the house which assisted with the firefight.
“The house was totally destroyed – however given the circumstances I think it’s fair to say it could have been much worse,” Mr Sutton said.
A car and caravan in the carport of the home were also severely damaged by the fire.
The incident was under control just before 7am.
In an unlucky twist, the upstairs section of the double-storey home had recently been renovated and completed just one month ago.
Fire investigators are on scene this morning to determine the cause – early indications suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault.
This incident follows two other recent house fires including another fully-involved house fire in Rushworth overnight where two people were treated for smoke inhalation.
CFA crews also responded to a single-storey house fire in Boronia yesterday just after 2pm, which extensively damaged the home.
