Total Fire Ban for Mallee

A Total Fire Ban (TFB) has been declared for the Mallee, this Saturday, 20 January 2018.

Total

Saturday’s conditions in the Mallee will be hot and dry with temperatures reaching the mid 40s.

The Fire Danger Rating for the Mallee this Saturday will be Severe.

Chief Officer Steve Warrington said the conditions in the Mallee would make it difficult for firefighters to supress a fire should one start.

“We are asking people to heed the total fire ban conditions and understand that it is illegal to light a fire or allow a fire to remain lit in the open air during a total fire ban,” Mr Warrington said.

“We would urge all residents in the Mallee to take care of one another and stay informed in the midst of this heatwave.

“People need to be aware of the increased fire danger and ensure your fire plan covers all possible contingencies.”

TFBs mean no fire can be lit in the open air or allowed to remain alight from 12.01am to 11.59pm on the day of the Total Fire Ban.
