8AM: Southbound lanes of the Hume Freeway, south of Euroa, remain closed this morning following a truck fire overnight.

CFA crews from Longwood were called to the scene near Seven Creeks about 12:30am to find the semi-trailer alight and blocking two southbound lanes.

District 22 RDO Justin Dally said the driver of the truck noticed his trailer was on fire and managed to disconnect the prime mover from the trailer before the fire spread.

“The trailer was carrying hardware products, including concrete and adhesive which had caught fire,” Mr Dally said.

“As a precaution, we sent a hazmat crew from Shepparton due to the potential chemicals on scene but it was determined to be safe,” he said.

“CFA worked closely with Victoria Police and other agencies to bring the incident under control, and crews have been on scene for most of the morning blacking out and making sure the fire was out.”

Fortunately the driver suffered no injuries.

The cause is yet to be determined.
