Truck fire on Hume Freeway

UPDATE @ 4.40pm, 16 March: The incident was declared safe just before 4.30pm. One CFA truck remains on scene.

A truck carrying furniture caught fire on the Hume freeway at Benalla this afternoon (16 March).

CFA was called to the incident just before 3pm where they found the rear half of the truck engulfed by fire.

Five CFA trucks from Benalla, Whitegate and Lurg continue to battle the blaze which is producing a fair amount of smoke in the area.

It’s believed the tyre on the truck caught fire which spread to the enclosed truck tray.

No one was injured in the fire.

Due to the amount of furniture in the truck, the fire is still burning but firefighters are working hard to bring it under control.
