Firefighters in the state’s west have been busy with two houses destroyed by fire in less than 24 hours.
The first fire broke out at Gymbowen in District 17 on Nhill-Harrow Road around 5.15pm yesterday (3 Feb). Firefighters were able to control the fire within 15 minutes but the single storey weatherboard home was burnt to the ground.
The house was unoccupied at the time and the cause is believed to be an electrical fault. Four CFA trucks from Gymbowen, Karnak, Mitre and Goroke attended the scene.
Another house fire broke out in District 17 just after 9.30 this morning at Warracknabeal.
Four CFA trucks from Warracknabeal, Cannum and Lah battled the blaze in Lyle Street but the house was destroyed.
Firefighters brought the fire under control just before 11am. There was one occupant in the house at the time but she escaped unharmed.
CFA District 17 Operations Officer Trevor Ebbels said the cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
“I have no reason to believe the fire is suspicious but CFA Fire Investigation will commence in a few hours,” he said.
“Unfortunately the structure was completely destroyed but firefighters were able to recover some personal items which have been handed over to the owners.”
Crews are expected to remain on scene blacking out and carrying out salvage and overhaul activities for the next few hours.
