Update from the Acting CEO - Launch of Allies of Inclusion Network

As CFA members we hold an important role in the community to lead and promote diversity and inclusion and challenge bias and discrimination.  This cannot be achieved alone - that’s why we’re bringing together a network of allies to support the advancement of inclusion, diversity and fairness within CFA.

Update

CFA is committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace where employees and volunteers engage and interact with each other and the broader community in an equitable manner, regardless of, ethnicity, culture, language, beliefs, gender, age, socio-economic status, level of ability, additional needs, family structure or lifestyle.

We want to shift the focus to the positive similarities that bind our members - to recognise, appreciate and utilise the unique insights and perspectives of others.

Our Inclusion and Fairness team has recently launched CFA’s Allies of Inclusion Network (AIN) which aims to provide a safe space for like-minded members to connect and work towards creating an inclusive organisation where members can bring their whole self to CFA.

The AIN brings together CFA people who have a passion and willingness to promote and contribute to a positive, diverse and supportive culture.

All CFA members - staff and volunteers - are welcome and encouraged to join the network and share their ideas, connect, learn and work together to support local and state initiatives.

You will be supporting a workplace culture that values and respects the unique strengths, capabilities and potential of each member.

Two workshops have already been held for members to find out more about the AIN. I want to thank everyone who has shown an interest in getting involved.

As an ally you will feel more empowered to challenge language, attitudes or behaviour that is not consistent with the values and culture of CFA. We know and recognise that that some allies will have a preference to be more vocal; while other are quieter supporters - both attributes are equally valued and valuable.

Being a visible ally is the key to building a more inclusive workplace.

Joining the AIN is your opportunity to stand up for inclusion for everyone; lead by example, encourage others to get involved by telling your ally story, and to have a positive influence on our workplaces, brigades and communities.

Your involvement can also help create an ongoing legacy which will positively impact on member attraction, engagement and retention through visibility, education and awareness.
