The Funeral Service for the late Garry James Mallen was held today (Friday 9 February) at the Portland Civic Hall, Bentinck Street, Portland
CFA has farewelled long-serving volunteer Garry Mallen who passed away recently while undertaking operational duties.
Garry's family, friends and colleagues were joined by Chief Officer Jason Heffernan, CEO Natalie MacDonald, Emergency Management Commissioner Rick Nugent as well as other dignitaries at his service.
Those who attended spoke of his leadership and support as well as his 39 years of service as a member of CFA.
Portland Fire Brigade Captain Ryan Delony said Garry was gentle, caring, devoted, calm and humble, yet also a larrikin.
"The brigade and community have lost a father we didn't realise we had," Ryan said. "He was the cornerstone of his family, brigade and community."
As an organisation we thank Garry for his commitment and dedication to his fellow members and communities.
