Visual communication students from Surf Coast Secondary College have been busy gaining real-life experience, designing a logo for Torquay Fire Brigade.
The program has been developed by their teacher Andy Forssman and will see students attend a presentation and Q&A session with their client – Tim from Torquay Fire Brigade– and then to go away and work on designs that will best reflect the values and role of CFA.
Torquay Fire Brigade member Tim Tingiri said the program gives the students the opportunity to gain real-life experience and apply their knowledge to an environment outside the classroom.
"It also gives them an opportunity to learn more about the brigade and the many opportunities and pathways CFA has to offer," said Tim.
"It’s important for the brigade to foster relationships with the community, particularly with the younger generation who will hopefully be our next generation of recruits and leaders."
Surf Coast Secondary College Principal Scott Diamond said the college is very excited by the opportunity presented to the students as the process will be very similar to what they will experience in the real world of design.
"Throughout our school we always attempt to provide students with real life learning opportunities, we are very proud of our students in everything they do and we can’t wait to see what they come up with.
"For our visual communication students to have the opportunity to design a logo for an organisation that is so crucial to our community is brilliant.
"CFA holds an important spot in the hearts of Surf Coast Secondary College community members, several of who were supported so courageously by the CFA during the Christmas fires in Lorne and Aireys Inlet."
