Firefighters were called to the incident at around 8.20am.
District 13 Operations Officer Colin Brown said the ute was carrying a number of oxy-acetylene cylinders.
“The impact of the collision caused the cylinders to come loose which in turn launched some of those cylinders from the ute into nearby properties,” Colin said.
“The explosive noises residents heard were from the cylinders being launched.
“Fortunately none of the cylinders caught fire.
“Ambulance Victoria was on scene and one person has been transported to hospital.
“All crews worked extremely well together to bring the incident under control within 30 minutes of the initial call.
“The Dandenong Ladder Platform and the MFB’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) are currently helping police with their investigation as well as searching for cylinders and debris.”
MFB, SES, Ambulance Victoria, Police and VicRoads all attended the incident.
WorkSafe and the gas company were also required to attend.
Four CFA vehicles from Bayswater, Boronia and Dandenong brigades attended.
