The Victorian Government has today announced a review of CFA and MFB, with a focus on resourcing, operations, management and culture.
Minister for Emergency Services Jane Garrett MP has appointed David O’Byrne, a former Minister for Police and Emergency Services in the Tasmanian government, to conduct the review.
The Fire Services review will inquire into a broad range of areas, including:
- The resources needed to ensure Victoria is properly equipped and fire ready
- How CFA and MFB staff can be best supported in protecting communities, including operational and OH&S needs
- Interoperability between CFA, MFB and other fire services
- Management structures and practices of CFA and MFB
- Enhancing workplace culture, including management and workforce c-operation
- Enhancing workplace innovation and diversity
- Options to establish a Career Firefighters Registration Board
- The best way to support volunteer brigades in providing emergency services.
The review will also involve interviewing and considering written submissions from a range of key stakeholders, including CFA, MFB, DELWP, EMV, and representative bodies.
CFA sees the review as an opportune time to provide input and advice on a wide range of important organisational issues, and looks forward to working with Mr O’Byrne.
The Fire Services Review will be submitted to the Minister by 30 September 2015.
