Volunteering for a better future

International Volunteer Day is celebrated worldwide each year on 5 December to recognise the amazing contribution volunteers make to their communities – in particular, the work they do to build resilient communities.

Led by the United Nations, International Volunteer Day is a unique opportunity for CFA to recognise and celebrate the tireless efforts and commitment of our volunteers.

This year’s theme, Volunteer now for our common future, aims to inspire people to act now – for people and the planet.

Encouraging, recognising and promoting volunteerism is an important part of creating a better, more equal and inclusive future for local communities and worldwide.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan acknowledged the vital role of CFA volunteers in supporting and protecting their communities.

“Our volunteers are dedicated and committed to protecting Victorians and making our state a safer place each and every day,” Jason said.

“Our members work tirelessly, not only responding to emergencies but helping their communities prepare for fire and become more resilient.

“I thank our volunteers and their families for their dedication, compassion and professionalism. Take a moment this International Volunteer Day to reflect on the significance of your service and contribution, and the respect and pride the community has for you.”

More information about International Volunteer Day is available on the Volunteering Australia website. CFA will share content to mark the day on Sunday 5 December.

Happy International Volunteer Day to all our volunteers. Thank you for being part of CFA.
