Walmer's new station

Walmer Fire Brigade members celebrated the opening of their new station on Saturday 2 April. Around 75 people witnessed the opening including members of the brigade, local politicians and the community.

Craig Brittain, Operations Officer for Mount Alexander Catchment, was the MC for the event. Festivities kicked off with a performance of ‘Welcome to Country’ by Dja Dja Wurrung elder Trent Nelson. The station was then officially opened by Maree Edwards, MLA Member for Bendigo West, and CFA District 2 Operations Manager Steve Smith.

Guests including Mount Alexander Shire Mayor Christine Henderson and neighbouring captains from fellow Maldon Group Brigades, and beyond, all came to show their support on the day.

Maldon Brass Band also made an appearance entertaining guests and performing the National Anthem which was accompanied by Louise Clarke on vocals.

Following the opening, the brigade used the occasion to present some well-deserved service awards to their members. This included an award for 70 years’ service to the brigade and its community for long-standing member John Long.

Walmer Captain John Hayes thanked brigade members for their support in organising the opening and building of the station. It's a great new space for the brigade and the wider community to use.
