Wesburn house destroyed

A Wesburn house, shed and four cars have been destroyed by fire early this morning.

CFA was called to the Warburton Highway home just before 4.30am.

On arrival, firefighters found the house fully alight and a man trapped inside.

Firefighters were able to safely rescue the man and he was transported to hospital by Ambulance Victoria.

District 13 Operations Officer Don Tomkins said the fire was difficult to attack due to the heavy fuel loads at the property.

“There were also some gas bottles on the property which were exploding making it even more challenging for firefighters,” he said.

“Firefighters did a great job rescuing the man inside considering the challenges with the fire fight.”

The fire was brought under control within an hour but firefighters remain on scene blacking out and mopping up.

There were 14 CFA trucks on scene from Wesburn, Wesburn-Millgrove, Yarra Junction, Warburton, Yellingbo, Little Yarra, Bayswater, Hillcrest, Frankston, Seville, Gruyere and a District 13 Ops vehicle.

The cause is believed to be accidental but is being investigated today.
