Building on the success of the 2015 Fire Safety Pledge, CFA again hosted the initiative in 2016. The initiative was innovative and focused on improving community fire safety.
Brigades were offered the chance to win one of three $1000.00 cash prizes by simply getting members of their community to take the online ‘Fire Safety Pledge’ between 3 November and 22 December 2016.
The pledge aimed to increase public awareness regarding the risk of fires and offered the community some specific actions they could choose to take in order to reduce their risk or better prepare for fire.
When members of the public took the pledge, they were asked to select a CFA brigade they wished to support. At the end of the competition, the brigade with the greatest number of pledges across three different categorises received a cash prize of $1000.00. The different competition categories catered for CFA brigades serving communities of different sizes and give smaller brigades a chance to compete just by connecting with their networks and community.
A certificate of appreciation was also presented to the brigade in each district who received the overall most pledges.
In addition to this, anyone who took the pledge during the competition period went in the draw to win one of four Samsung Galaxy Tablets (donated by Telstra who were proud supporters of the 2016 Fire Safety Pledge), or one of four $100 Bunnings Gift Cards.
