Women in District 17 Training Day

On Sunday 10 April 2016, 29 women from District 17 attended the Women in District 17 Training Day at the Victorian Emergency Management Training Centre (VEMTC) – Longerenong campus. The purpose of the day was to build confidence and encourage women to be more actively involved in their brigades.

The firefighters participated in many different activities including extinguishing power box and kitchen fires, forcing entry to a car and through a door using a Halligan bar and an axe, putting out overhead fuel, gas bullet, power pole and a service station car fire and rescue.

Feedback form the day indicated it was a huge success, with many of the fire fighters wanting to return to the Training Ground next year for Round 3!

A huge thank you to the training ground staff, brigade support team and BASOs who organised and ran the day, and to the sponsors who came on board with their generous support.
