Working together to get the job done

Strathloddon and Glenlyon groups have been working together for the past 12 months to develop a greater rapport in order to create safer communities.

Whenever the opportunity arrises, whether it's training, group meetings or community events, you can find members from both groups working together to ensure they can achieve common goals regardless of that imaginary district line.

In February, all this preparation was put into practice. On Wednesday 15 February, an excavator moving gorse started a fire in Glenlyon. It was a Total Fire Ban day and the wind quickly blew embers towards the forest. Glenlyon Fire Brigade welcomed the support from neighbouring brigades, groups and the water bomber to bring the fire under control.

Two days later, a trailer lost a wheel and created enough sparks to start a fire which spread in the dry grass and ran up the hill. Again, brigades from Glenlyon and Strathloddon groups pulled together to contain a fire which could have quickly got out of control.

One captain remarked,"when we all work together we can get the job done quicker and more efficiently'.

A great job was done by all brigade members.
