At 6.25pm today a column of smoke was reported coming from the Barmah National Park (NNW of Shepparton). Crews responded to the grass and scrub fire which took some time to gain access to in the park.
Twenty-four units are on scene, one aerial support also responded and assisted in the firefight until sunset. The fire is approximately 25 hectares in size.
Police were requested to doorknock a small number of houses situated at the edge of the park. A Watch & Act message for nearby communities in Yurze, Yielima and Yalca North has been issued.
The southern edge of the fire has been contained, however residents are asked to remain vigilant. The fire is slow moving.
Department of Environment & Primary Industry firefighters will now manage the fire, with continued support from CFA brigades.
