Putting the community at the centre of everything CFA does means listening to the views of individuals and households in our communities and drawing on their diverse experiences and needs.
CFA’s long-running bushfire research study seeks to do just this.
Since 2010 an annual community survey has been conducted to explore the attitudes and perceptions of people living in bushfire prone areas of Victoria. The research provides important insights about bushfire preparedness and tracks aspects of risk perception, bushfire planning and preparation and response.
The latest community survey will take place over the next few weeks.
So how are the research findings used? They are combined with other key data sources to inform community safety approaches and community messaging. The research has been important in the development of the bushfire archetypes which are now being used to inform the ongoing development of community engagement programs, monitoring and evaluation of CFA services and bushfire evacuation modelling.
